Quit Smoking - Stay Stopped

Smoking is a habit that is not only unhealthy and can cause many problems, but it is also displeasing to those around smokers. Unfortunately, this habit is very hard to quite. Many people have tried different approaches such as weaning off cigarettes, quitting "cold turkey", chewing gum or using patches. Some of these items may work for a select few; however, they do not cater to the general public.

Let"s look at some of the ways to quit smoking more closely:

1. Weaning off cigarettes is not an effective way of kicking the habit. This just prolongs achieving anything. It allows that person to say, just another pack, or, I am very close to quitting.
2. "Cold Turnkey" is sometimes the one method that does work for people, for a shorter period of time. This process involves throwing away what cigarettes are left and then using nothing else but will power not to smoke. During this process, the quitter is restless, irritable and just plain not in a good mood. If the person quitting does have success, the likelihood that they will return to smoking are great.
3. Chewing gum whether it be tobacco gum or regular is also a way to curb the craving. Unfortunately, this does not have a high success rate. The concept behind the regular gum is that it is an oral fixation; however, it does not replace cigarettes well. The tobacco gum often makes people sick to their stomach and they discontinue use.
4. Tobacco patches are actually a fairly effective form of quitting. The main downfall to these patches is that they require a significant money investment. Most people who start to use them wind up discontinuing due to cost factor.

So what other options are left if these do not have a good success rate? There are a couple of other alternatives that are effective and are also safe and healthy.

Neuro-Linguistic programming, or NLP for short, can help you quit smoking. Through the process of hypnosis, you will be resisting cravings, keeping yourself committed and feeling less stressed and more relaxed which will help make sure you do not feel the need to smoke.

The addiction to cigarettes is both physical and mental. The physical aspect of cigarettes usually lasts somewhere between 3 days and a week. This is really not that long of a time span. The body only takes a short period of time to return to body levels that are free of nicotine that was received from smoking.

So why is smoking so hard to quit? Well, the other 90% of the battle is with you. This is why most of the above methods to stop smoking above have a huge failure rate. In turn, this is why NLP is the preferred method of putting down a cigarette for good.

Here is why it works:

1. When you smoke, you are conditioning your body to respond a certain way. For example, if you smoke after you eat, your body sees that as the needed thing to do. The more you do it, the more your mind depends on that. NLP works to eliminate those connections.
2. Smoking is like a ritual, NLP uses the subconscious to suggest to you body that you do not need the nicotine or need to light up.
3. NLP focuses on the benefits of when you stop smoking. This is done using imagery as well as other senses.

Overall, NLP stops both sides of the stop smoking drama. It allows you to successfully cut out the physical dependence and then eliminate the mental dependence.
