Hypnosis for Sports

To treat a patient under hypnosis, is known as hypnotherapy.

Quite opposing to popular conviction, hypnosis is not at all a state of deep slumber.  It is actually a state of induction into a trance-like condition. When experiencing it, the client is in fact in a superior state of consciousness, concentrating completely on the voice of the hypnotist.  In this super conscious state, the conscious mind is concealed and the subconscious mind is revealed.

There are a lot of conditions that are cured by hypnotherapy. However, the best cures are for the conditions or ailments which are more psychological and behavioral than physical. And if you consider the above sentence, hypnotherapy is just ideal for the sportspersons.

Yes, there is no doubt that performance in sports has got a lot to do with mental capabilities than physical abilities. And this is the point, where hypnotherapy helps like magic. It just helps a sports person to focus his or her mind on the desired goal like an arrow. It teaches the sportsperson how to shut out the numerous negative thoughts or distractions. When you are out there on the sports ground, anything which comes in between you and your goal deviate you from it. That is exactly what hypnotherapy teaches you, to shut out the deviations. Hundreds of sports stars have benefited from hypnotherapy in improving sports performance. Many Sporting legends frequently use hypnosis to uplift themselves to a state of mind where they are in absolute control of their mental situation.

Hypnosis helps the sportsperson in three steps: goal setting, mental imagery and mental flow.

Goal Setting not only involves setting up outcomes or goals within the field. It also helps you setting achievable targets in life. It might even be solving a difficult relationship or may be personal difficulties. If an athlete"s marriage is having troubles or he is about to be bankrupt, he can never focus on winning a medal.
It is very important to set achievable short term goals in any sport so you can look towards them as a possibility. Some opine long term goals are not favorable as they often lead to distress.

Mental Imagery involves you to see and experience success in your mind"s eye. Not only that you have to see it you need to feel it too. Imagine how it feels to make your time in running! Visualize how it really feels to have that gold hanging down your neck!
Confirmations are really useful at times, for example you could repeat the mantra everyday "I am the greatest' this will improve your self-evaluation. And to truly change your self belief, it is necessary to make use of mental imagery and rehearsal.

Mental Flow is all about being "there", it is about being absorbed in some event to a spiritual level. You have to feel that you are going to score, even before you have even touched the ball. You have to feel invincible just as you entered the ring. This is the state which is known as peak experience.
